Dear Alumni and Friends in Malaysia
It was a pleasure meeting many of you at our recent Alumni and Friends events in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Kota Kinabalu. Chancellor Dr John Wood and I were grateful for the kindness and support provided to us and the University during our visit.
I am writing to ask for your help in promoting the University of Canterbury to your family, friends and work colleagues living in Malaysia.
As mentioned at the alumni events, the University is participating in New Zealand education fairs in six cities throughout Malaysia from 25 July to 5 August. Ms Jean Williamson from our International Office, along with UC’s local education agents, will be available to talk to students interested in studying at UC. Students should bring their academic transcripts/school records and/or forecast results.
I would be grateful if you could pass this email and information to family, friends and work colleagues and encourage those with children considering overseas study to visit UC at the fairs below. Please visit www.canterbury.ac.nz/international for more information about studying at the University of Canterbury.

NEW MALAYSIAN UC ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS : INVITATION TO PLEDGE:-
|
Posted by admin on 2012/7/7 3:20:00 (1616 reads) |
Dear UCAM Members and UC Alumni, As you are are aware, the University of Canterbury has lost more than 10% of its total students, and around 40% of their international students due to the earthquake in 2011. As a direct result of lost revenue and higher earthquake-related costs, it is projected that in 2012, the UC will lose NZ$20 million, rising to a loss of $26 million in 2013.
It is critical therefore, that the UC boost their number of enrolments in 2013, for both New Zealand and international students, and in particular, they are very keen to increase the number of Malaysian students enrolling for next year, and over the next three years. As you might know, there is an existing Malaysia Alumni Scholarship endowment fund, which will continue to operate, but this scholarship is able to fund only one scholarship of NZ$5,000 per annum. The UC has proposed, and is launching, a New Malaysian UC Alumni Scholarship Fund. The New Malaysian UC Alumni Scholarship Fund will enable the UC to offer at least five additional scholarships each year, over the next three years, for Malaysian students, at a higher level equivalent to around 50% of the fees payable for one year.
The UC's objective is to raise NZ$10,000 every year for 3 years towards the scholarships, and the UC is hoping to have support from each of the 5 cities; KL, Kuching, Sibu, Miri and KK. The Sibu chapter have agreed to support the proposal.
Great news! We have finalized the opening of a specific account, solely dedicated to receiving payments for the “New Malaysian UC Alumni Scholarships” fund. The details of the bank account are as follows:- Account Number : 14300009309058 Account Name : NEW MALAYSIAN UC ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS Bank Name : CIMB Bank Berhad, Lot C04-C05, Concourse Level, Petronas Tower 3, Suria KLCC, 50088 Kuala Lumpur. Attached is the form for the “Registration of Interest to Contribute to the New Malaysian UC Alumni Scholarships”, and we would appreciate if you could kindly fill it up, as we need to make a list of donors and we have to provide this list to the UC for their record, as well. If you prefer to leave some of the information out, that is fine.
However, we realize that some of you might want to contribute smaller amounts that you are comfortable with, or possibly larger amounts. Therefore, we are pleased to provide you all with an amended form that enables you to contribute whatever amount that you are comfortable with.
Many thanks. My kind regards, UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY ALUMNI, MALAYSIA RICHARD TANKERSLEY President Tel: 03 2141 0822 Fax: 03 2141 0843 H/P: 019 221 2222
