Passing of Ter Leong Yong

With sadness, we announce the passing of Ter Leong Yong on Tuesday, 27th September 2005.
Ter Leong Yong was born in 1952 and passed away at the age of 53 years after battling cancer for almost a year. The disease had started from the neck and had spread to the spinal cord which ultimately affected his liver.
Despite seeking oncological treatment, both locally and overseas, Leong Yong succumbed. He is survived by Sally, his beloved wife and five children (3 daughters and 2 sons). His eldest daughter is pursuing an undergraduate course at a university in Melbourne while the youngest son is in Primary 6.
The late Ter Leong Yong graduated from University of Canterbury with a degree in chemical engineering in late 1974. Upon his return to Malaysia, he joined PETRONAS in 1976, during its formative years. Reporting to our Mr. Ngau Boon Keat, he was assigned to the project team which was responsible for the implementation of the country's first aviation fuel hydrant project at Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang.
His next major assignment was being a project engineer involved in the implementation of Malaysia's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project located in Bintulu, Sarawak. Working closely with Shell as the engineering consultant, the multi-billion dollar project was constructed by Japanese and South Korean contractors and comprised three trains with a total capacity to produce 6 million tonnes of LNG annually. The LNG complex was completed on schedule and commenced operation in 1983. He remained with MLNG Sdn. Bhd. during the operational stage but left the company a few years later to start his own business.
Prior to his demise, he was the managing director of Yakcheong Metal Industries Sdn. Bhd. and held directorships in two other companies dealing with the manufacture of office equipment. The late Ter was an avid golfer. He was very sociable and liked by many of his friends and business associates. His untimely departure from this world will be greatly missed by us all.
